NKBA Student Contest

Portland, OR

I entered this project into the NKBA Student Contest while in college, and have since revisited it to make revisions.

Check out the before:

Our guidelines were that this was a family home with an avid chef. She wanted lots of storage, and a place to entertain.

I knew I wanted to push the envelope, so I eliminated the L-shaped kitchen and reconfigured it.

The “before” floor plan is pictured.

Apart from the island and the cabinetry, I kept the rest of the floor plan intact, such as the pantry location.

I elongated the window in the kitchen to give it more natural light, and to create a statement piece.

By adding storage to the right, I was able to keep a clean and functional space for the mother to cook in.
